I began learning about the purpose of tithing at church. I learned that I
should give knowing that God would take care of me financially. I started
actually trying to pay a tenth of what I earned from work in tithes instead of
just a few dollars.
There came a few weeks that I was low on cash and I was being very careful
with how much money I spent so that I could have something to eat. But I still
kept paying my tithes, held strong to my faith, and did not complain to anyone.
Suddenly, I noticed people kept giving me free food. Family members would
randomly bring some food that they cooked to me or would invite me to come by
and have dinner with them. And when I went to work, some employees (even ones
that I didn’t know that well) would buy something to eat during our breaks,
start eating, then all of a sudden not be hungry anymore. They would then offer
me, of all people, their food. I believe God was looking out for me and showing
me that He will always take care of me when I am obedient to Him.
